Coviello Electric completed the replacement of 23 Variable Message Signs (VMS) along the southbound corridor of Route 93, including key locations such as the Lower Deck, the Zakim Bridge, and the tunnel system with its associated ramps. The project involved the removal of outdated VMS units and the installation of modern signs equipped with Over Height Vehicle Detector (OHVD) warning systems. As part of the upgrade, each Local Field Controller was rehabilitated to ensure optimal performance. The scope of work also included the integration of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) input/output devices, along with the deployment of ethernet and fiber optic communication links. These enhancements provide seamless connectivity to both the Highway Operations Center and the Backup Operations Center via MassDOT’s Integrated Process Control System, significantly improving traffic management and operational efficiency across the corridor.
